Think the Oriental (Bangkok), the Pensinsula and the Mandarin Oriental (Hong Kong), the Park Hyatt (Tokyo), Raffles (Singapore), Claridges (London), the Carlyle and the Chatwal (New York), and the Imperial (Delhi). The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai is one of a kind and embodies what a truly historic luxury hotel stands for - elegant rooms (Palace Wing), staff service of the highest imaginable level, and F&B offerings to rival the world's best. The oldest, biggest and most celebrated luxury five star hotel in the entire country of India, staying is a once in a lifetime experience on many levels. Located overlooking the gateway of India, it is right in the heart of Bombay and shopping is just steps away. Morning yoga is a highlight, rooms are beautifully designed and breakfast by the pool is seriously elegant. The hotel’s historical tour is outstanding, particularly if conducted by Newton, one of the longest serving employees of the property. The security is heavy and can be frustrating, and there are always a lot of people around. But it’s still worth staying.

I booked this hotel as part of our once in a lifetime experiences for the start of our fourth week vacation in India. Checkin was an affair, complete with bindi, necklaces, and a welcome drink. The staff was extremely polite with broad smiles and gracious demeanor. The lobby was beautifully decorated with marble floors throughout most of the building. There was a crowd around all the time as everyone seemed to want to stay at Taj Mahal Palace. The pool was large and beautiful with an infinity appearance. There was a restaurant poolside, which meant guests around the pool at all times. They had a short history movie projected on the walls behind the pool in the evening as well as a heritage walk tour of the hotel given at set times throughout the day. They were both very nicely done and informative. There are a few dining options at the hotel. Dinner does not start until 7 PM at the restaurants. We prefer to eat earlier but did not want to eat at the 24 hour cafe or the poolside dining. We ended up waiting until 7 PM. Our room in the palace wing was very pretty and spacious with a sitting area, desk and table, tv and cabinet, mini fridge, safe, closet, iron and board, fruits, coffee, and water. The bathroom was large with a large bathtub, soft towels and full amenities. They had yoga at 8 AM. It was a very nice start to the day. We first stretched every part of the body and then went through some poses. It got quite warm toward the end as we worked and the sun started heating up the air. At the end we were treated to some delicious tea. There are so many activities and places to visit around the hotel that you could spend a few days taking it all in. I definitely recommend splurging on this hotel at least once if you’re going to be in Mumbai.

As a family blessed with two lovely daughters, aged five yrs and six months, we had the pleasure of spending three delightful nights at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai to commemorate our wedding anniversary. Despite our deep connections to Mumbai, where many of our relatives reside on my in-laws' side, this particular visit was solely for leisure purposes. Opting for a club room (albeit sans a sea view initially), we arrived with hopes of soaking in the beauty of Mumbai's coastline. Upon expressing our desire for a room overlooking the sea during check-in, the staff graciously accommodated our request, swiftly allocating us a room with a breathtaking vista of the Gateway of India from the very next day. This new room not only offered an enhanced view but also boasted a more spacious layout, elevating our experience significantly. One of the highlights of our stay was the serene ambiance of the pool area, a haven within the bustling cityscape. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the meticulously maintained pool area provided ample loungers and seating options, complemented by a charming poolside restaurant serving an array of international and Indian delicacies. Shielded by a delicate net, the area remained blissfully free from the disturbances of urban avian inhabitants, particularly the ubiquitous city pigeons. The poolside restaurant, though offering a limited selection, delighted our palates with delectable Indian and continental fare. Our mornings were greeted with a sumptuous spread at the Sea Lounge, offering a delightful fusion of continental and Indian flavors, with the added option of personalized orders such as eggs and pancakes. The attentive staff endeavored to fulfill our every need, adding to the warmth of our experience. Our anniversary dinner at Wasabi – By Morimoto was a culinary journey to remember, with some of the finest sushi we've savored since our introduction to the delicacy years ago. Sunday brunch at Shamiyana exceeded our expectations, boasting an extensive menu featuring an enticing blend of Indian and continental delights, leaving us eager to return. The housekeeping team's meticulous attention to detail was evident in their thoughtful gestures, including small tokens specially prepared for our daughters. We just can't thank enough the incredible individuals who made our stay at the Taj Mahal Palace truly unforgettable. To Abhishek, Vaibhavi, and Farzana at reception—your warm welcome and efficient service set the tone for our entire experience. Rajesh at Aquarius, your attentive care at the poolside restaurant made our leisure time truly blissful. Shraddha and Suraj at Shamiyana, your hospitality during our Sunday brunch added an extra layer of joy to our celebrations. And to Jatin and Rajan at Wasabi, your culinary expertise elevated our anniversary dinner to an extraordinary culinary journey, heartfelt thanks to Kiran at the Sea Lounge for the delightful breakfast experiences and impeccable service. Each of you played a vital role in creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Luxury at it's best! Fabulous stay in Mumbai at the best location. Staff, service and entire place was one of the best experiences on our 4 week trip to India. After driving with a guide and flights it was a relief to spend 3 nights at this place. Everything was perfect.....service, food etc.
